The room which is thought up by Adelbert Ames Jr. in 1946 represents an example of three-dimensional optical illusion. The room is designed in such a way that at a look in front it seems usual, with perpendicular walls and a ceiling.

Actually, the form of the room represents a trapeze where the distant wall is located under a very acute angle to one wall and, respectively, at an obtuse angle to another. Thus the right corner is much closer to the observer, than left.

Due to the illusion strengthened respectively by the distorted chess cages on a floor and walls, the person standing in a near corner looks a giant in comparison with standing in distant. When the person passes up and down, it seems to the observer that he grows quicly or, on the contrary, decreases.
